The University Programming Marathon (UPM), organized by Slovenian universities under the auspices of ACM Slovenia, is the paramount national student programming competition. The contest takes place throughout the year across multiple rounds—from a trial round and three preliminary rounds to the grand finale—testing students' knowledge in algorithms, data structures, and code optimization.
Teams of three solve complex algorithmic problems under time pressure using C, C++, Java, or Python. In addition to technical excellence, the competition demands outstanding teamwork, tactical task distribution, and rapid, precise analytical thinking. Top-performing teams earn the right to represent their universities at the Central Europe Regional Contest (CERC / ICPC).
